Museums

My favourite museum in Iceland. Perfect if you really want to dive into Icelandic History. The museum is quite big and on 3 floors so I recommend 1,5-3 hours depending on how keen you are on history.

The Settlement Exhibition
A pretty cool exhibition that is built around an archaeological site that uncovered the first evidence of human settlement in the area of Reykjavík. You’ll see an excavated long house and learn about the settlement era. The exhibition is not super big so about an 1-1,5 should be plenty enough.
Price of Admission: 1800 ISK
Free for children.
Opening Hours: 10-17 everyday.

Perlan Natural History Museum
Good museum if you are interested in volcanoes, animals, glaciers and their impact on Icelands history. If you don’t have time to visit a natural ice cave you can visit a man made one here. In the planetarium you can learn about how the Northern Lights form and their history. This museum is especially good if you have your family with you.
I would recommend about 1.5-2 hours for the museum part.
Price of Admission: 4490 ISK for adults. 2290 ISK for children aged 6-17. Free for children under the age of 5. 9990 ISK for a family ticket (2 adults + 2 children)

The Icelandic Punk Museum
If you are into music and the history of music then this place can’t be missed! The museum is built in what used to be underground public toilets. Can’t find a more appropriate place for a punk museum. An hour would be a good amount of time to spend here.

Opening hours: 14:00-18:00 everyday.
